"I am inherently attracted to flaws and rough edges, natural beauty. Untamed design forms a knowing perfection."

– Jennifer Elster

The original of each designed piece from the J. ELSTER Collection is hand sculpted and hand crafted by J. ELSTER and branded at The Development in New York City.  There is utmost care to detail at every turn.

Unfinished edges, jagged lines, and unexpected cuts are signature elements in J. ELSTER's original philosophy of design.  Embrace the imperfections as they are a part of the untamed and knowing sophistication.

Jennifer Elster is so pleased to present her collection of handcrafted, raw luxury accessories. Utmost dedication has gone into the development of each piece. Elster has been hand cutting and hand sculpting, with her raw style and sophisticated aesthetic, since her early conceptual work with the late David Bowie, which was recently featured in her solo exhibition, Take Heed. She has been influencing the cultural New York City underground since her teens.

Elster is a native New Yorker, an artist, filmmaker, musician, photographer, performer and designer, who antagonizes boundaries in all mediums she explores. Her work offers a deep and direct awareness of the human condition and our current world crisis. Most recently she exhibited video art and/or did performance art at the New Museum, Catinca Tabacaru, Stux, West Park and Central Booking in New York City.  Using words, paper, canvases, music, photographs, audio, video and performance art, Elster exhibited her art show The Retrospective of an Extroverted Recluse in 2016. Her upcoming directorial work is a film series, In the Woods, where she spent ten years filming people in the woods. The films are marked by Elster's unusual instructions —no one knows what is going on. Such subjects as Terrence Howard, Paz de la Huerta, Alan Cumming, Rufus Wainwright, Aimee Mullins, Questlove and many others have participated. Elster wrote vocalizations for Yoko Ono which Yoko performed for the sound scape.

As a multi-disciplined artist, Elster enjoys making beautiful things to wear with her hands. She created the practical and aesthetically perfect pouch for her essentials – phone and keys – which she wears all the time. Elster then crafted different pouches, sized for different purposes, to be worn at once: a new way for the modern person to compartmentalize their existence. She hand sculpts arm pieces, neck pieces, and headpieces, which together with The Pouch Collection form the J. ELSTER Collection.

Elster creates, performs and hosts private art happenings and fashions shows in the multi-faceted living installation, The Development. The first fashion show featured Selah Marley visit here.

Elster began her career styling for the covers of, and in such magazines as The Face, Dazed and Confused, Rolling Stone and Time. In addition to styling them, the following fashion icons have worn J. Elster pieces including David Bowie, Chloe Sevigny, Method Man, Gwyneth Paltrow, Trent Reznor, Shirley Manson and many others. To see some of the archives visit here.
